Join our Board
We are looking for people to join our Board of Trustees and help us build and run the new grant program that will be the center of the Foundation’s activities.
Our new grant will fund non-profit programs that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion in fan spaces, such as creating inclusive programming at fan events, helping fans from marginalized backgrounds attend conventions, or raising the profile of diverse fan creators.
What the job is
Trustees are responsible for making sure that Lunar Solis pursues its mission, manages its assets well, and stays in compliance with legal requirements. In practice, this means things like evaluating grant requests, doing outreach and follow-up with fan organizations, and publicizing our programs, as well as more mundane duties like formulating the annual budget, filing taxes, and so on.
A trustee’s time commitment is generally around 3 hours per month. Like all positions at Lunar Solis, trustees are unpaid.
What we’re looking for
We are especially looking for applicants who can demonstrate one or more of the following, though they are not hard requirements:
- Experience designing and/or running a grant program
- Work in nonprofit administration, especially in a financial or accounting capacity
- Good business sense
- A passion for a broad range of pop culture and the fan activities and events that celebrate it
If you don’t think you meet any of these but are excited about the foundation we’re trying to build, we encourage you to apply anyway. In particular, we encourage and invite Black people, Indigenous people, people of color, and members of other marginalized communities to apply. A wider spectrum of voices on our board will help ensure that we award grants to programs that actually meet the needs of marginalized communities and are effective at fostering inclusion in fan spaces.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
How to apply
To apply, please send a letter talking about your experience and reasons for applying to applications@lunarsolis.org. You can also send a resume if you’d like. There is no deadline; we’ll review and respond to applications on a rolling basis.
